Detailed programme
WORKSHOP A: Web Search Update 2010
Session coordinator: Chris Sherman, SearchEngineLand.com, Searchwise, USA
Time and venue: May 24, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, CERGE-EI, Prague 1, Politickych veznu 7, 2nd floor, room no. 7
Where are the search engines going? Is it different from where they’ve been? Where are they putting their emphasis? What’s up with personalized, specialty, vertical, blended and federated/universal search? Chris Sherman, whose long established relationships with search engine companies gives him a good sense of what’s coming and how new features will affect our working lives offers insight to what to expect in 2010. The workshop will focus on new developments of the major search engines, discuss the dozens of specialized tools available that can help you speed up your searching and uncover new and valuable information sources, and take a considered look at maps, which are becoming the new information visualization power tools. Next, a look at multimedia search – YouTube has become the world's second largest search engine, but more and more high quality content, academic lectures and courseware, research findings and more are being made available in multimedia format on the web. Finally, a look at a major but largely unnoticed trend enabled by search: personalization and targeting of advertisements tied to searcher behavior.
The workshop is organized in cooperation with CERGE-EI.
