XML technologies revolutionized computing and they are helping to change publishing industry. But this is just a beginning, in a near future XML will play a key role in scientific information infrastructure and other fields of human endeavor. The lecture presents several examples of utilization of XML in processing and evaluation of scientific data and identifies promising fields for further development.
After receiving Ph.D. at University of London, Dr. Nic worked several years at the Department of Organic Chemistry, ICT Prague. In 2000 he was the first employee of a startup Systinet which became a leading world company in the field of web infrastructure. In 1999 he founded Zvon, a very important information resource about XML, which is being used by millions of visitors from around the world. In recent years he is responsible for study program "Informatics and chemistry" at ICT Prague and he is developing novel information and publication technologies.
