Abstrakt
CABI is a not-for-profit international organization that improves people’s lives by providing information and applying scientific expertise to solve problems in agriculture, human health and the environment. It is therefore important that CABI supports librarians in their commitment to deliver properly analysed, synthesised and organised knowledge to support researchers. CABI is working to help researchers rediscover library resources through the use of Web 2.0 – social media, mobile devices and training resources. Some examples are:
- Global Health Knowledge Base
CABI’s Global Health database has excellent coverage of public health including journals not in PubMed, reports, bulletins, conference proceedings and theses – including over 11,000 full-text articles. In the USA CABI has worked with the National Network of Libraries of Medicine New England Region and the Lamar Soutter Library at the University of Massachusetts Medical School to make the database available to front line public health workers in New England and Colorado for a limited time. Our common goals are to improve access to key scholarly resources in the areas of public and community health and promote the resources held by the libraries, creating a new route into the database. This is an example of how CABI responds to market needs and has the flexibility to work with libraries to increase usage.
- CABI and Social Media
CABI’s “Handpicked … and carefully sorted” blog regularly discusses key issues in agriculture, plant sci¬ences, animal sciences, human sciences and leisure and tourism. These posts link through to CABI databases – leading students at subscribing institutes back to these key resources.
- CABI is using Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, Linked-In and Google+ to discuss research and library resources – leading readers to our blogs and back to www.cabi.org
