Abstract

What is a library today? Things are moving fast around us. The digital revolution is a reality. Therefore we need to prepare ourselves for new demands. On a journey of searching for new ways to raise the visibility of digital resources in the physical library environment both great opportunities and challenges appear. At Uppsala University Library we have worked with different development projects. These projects have helped us to identify positive results in our academic organization, and to understand what enables staff and ourselves to reach our goals and stimulate creativity. Working with different forms of projects gave us various experience and hopefully reveal the ‘best practices’. How do you go from future projects with a small number of project members involving everyone in the organization in a running business? How do we sustain, stimulate creativity and build in an ongoing development in our daily work? There is a great development potential of the brand „Library“, as a meeting point for growth personal and encounters. There are opportunities for libraries to develop methods and strategies together with co-workers, academic staff, users and course coordinators. This is leading us on to various communication initiatives, benchmarking and more strategic skills for staff. During our keynote we want to share our experience, pitfalls and success factors included, in the attempt to take a traditional organization towards the future library…

Author's professional CV

Linda Vidlund is Section Director of the Library for Economic Sciences at Uppsala University Library. Previously, she has pursued future issues as a Project manager within the section for E-resources and implemented Discovery tool and driven innovation ideas in most areas of library development. Linda Vidlund and Cecilia Petersson won the prize from Technology House as the innovator of the Year 2011. It was awarded to them for the work on the digital collections that have been integrated and visualized in the physical premises. They have used a variety of techniques; QR codes, AR, screens and expertise to create added value in the room. They brought digital resources in a context where the users are, and created commitment and competence for both users and staff.
