Abstract

Information and knowledge sharing process has been significantly influenced by a huge expansion of computer networks during last few years. Till these days this process was, more than anything else, only single-direction flow from creator to knowledge recipient or some form of information or knowledge exchange. No doubt the results could be much more better, when creators closely collaborate. Collaboration can be defined as the process where all parties work together and build consensus to reach a decision or create a product, the result of which benefits all of them.

This paper presents several progressive successful services, which represents various concepts of cooperative knowledge sharing and creating. Firstly mentioned is WikiWikiWeb service, which concept is best known for its implementation - web encyclopedia Wikipedia. Wikipedia provides a user friendly interface for web-based knowledge sharing. Next described is a collaborative system Cmap, which supports sharing and cooperative creating of topic maps. The last example described is Annotea - W3C project, which supports metadata and WWW description sharing. This could be successfully used in semantic web concept so as systems for collaborative creation of ontologies.

This paper concerns capabilities of mentioned tools and services and presents practical experience with them from educational process at the Faculty of Management, VSE.
