Citation Analysis of the Central European Journal of Public Health and the Relevance of the Results to the Editorial Policy

Abstract

The ten-year history (1993-2003) of the Central European Journal of Public Health (CEJPH) continuing the Journal of Hygiene, Epidemiology, Microbiology and Immunology (1957–1992) was assessed. The articles published in the CEJPH were searched for in the MEDLINE database; the missing issue was added from the database Bibliographia Medica Čechoslovaca. Citation rates were then established for each of the first authors using the WoS (Web of Science) database. Although the CEJPH has not been regularly excerpted in this information source yet, the impact factor was calculated using the known formula for 1995-2003. The citation analysis results were used to make the editorial board policy more effective and to improve the selection of articles and topics and thus to increase the prestige of the CEJPH at both the national and international levels.
