Acceptance of Scientific Publishing in Electronic Form for the Evaluation of Results of the Scientific Research - Survey Results [contribution]

Abstract

Publication activity of university teachers and scientists is one of the significant indicator of the evaluation of their research activity. Presentation of these results in electronic resources is more common, but till now there is only very little respect by evaluation authorities. Survey among members of evaluation commissions demonstrated their attitude to the acceptance of these resources as equal to the printed ones, about their usage and how they are willing to publish in electronic resources. As working typological categories were selected electronic online books, online journals, online proceedings, online bulletins, preprints in electronic archives, online textbooks, www sites, electronic dissertations, electronic research reports and projects. The reasons for no acceptance of the idividual types of resources were also explored.

About the author

Prof. Štefan Kimlička, PhD. (1943) work as professor of library and information science on the Department of Library and information science at the Comenius University in Bratislava (in 1990-1997 and 2001-2003 as the head of department). He goes in for systems analysis and design of information systems, project management and problems of higher education of library and information professionals.

He published 18 books (scholarly books, textbooks) and more then 200 articles, studies and papers). He was founder and organiser of seminars INFOS (1973-1988), developer of many projects of information systems (1970-1990: EKO-INDEX, VODOINFORM, IKIS etc.), researcher of many scientific and educational projects (1991-2005: UNESCO/IFLA, OSF, VEGA, KEGA). He is member of scientific boards of Comenius University, Faculty of Philosophy and Slovak University of Technology, Faculty of Informatics and Information Technologies, chairman of Common Commission for Doctoral Studies in Library and Information Science in Slovakia.
