Abstract

Clinicians practicing in a hospital setting and researchers have different information needs: depending on whether they are looking to research a topic or need immediate guidance in their clinical practice.

Traditionally, the library has been serving the research and education needs of clinicians, by offering rich array of print journals and database for the perusal of medical professionals. However, recent advances in technology as well as the booming of the Internet have allowed libraries to provide additional services, well beyond the supply of static knowledge. Ovid Technologies has been at the forefront of this change, by offering libraries aggregated information in a consistent and easy to use formats, that vary according to the needs of the end user.

For example, Ovid Technologies has integrated access to medical information into clinical practice, through integration of Evidence Based resources with Medline, allowing clinicians to limit a search to only the best evidence available, thus saving them time while performing practicing their profession. Also, tools such as AutoAlerts and PDA integration have facilitated this penetration of knowledge in the daily clinical practice.

This presentation will present Ovid's vision of what content, tools and services are available to clinicians and researchers at different time of their professional path and what this means in practice from the point of view of clinical practice and research.
