Abstract
The paper presents marketing in the State Scientific Library (SSL) Banská Bystrica: a/ as a conception of uniform acquisition (purchase and other forms of acquisition), processing, promotion of information sources and providing access to them. The policy is based on demands and requirements of our users and is aimed at satisfying these demands to achieve the maximum information effect resulting in content of users, and b/ as a summary of activities aimed at information sources - starting with their acquisition (including a research of both market and demands) to their mediation to users. The final product of a sensitive marketing is a high quality service as one of the most effective forms of library promotion. In addition to classical and electronical reference services as well as lending and "in-house-reading" services, our library serves as an Information Centre of the Parliament of the Slovak Republic, Centre of European Information, Information Point of the Council of Europe offering concentrated information on EU structural funds and programs, and also information on The European Court of Human Rights. At the end of the last year, a Centre of Patent Information was established here which is a part of the study room of special technical and legislation documents. SSL also incorporates the Museum of Literature and Music, a very specific and unique museum in Slovakia and Europe, too. It documents the literary and musical cultural activities and significant personalities of our region. In the building of our library there is also a regional office of the President of the Slovak Republic. Our library pays great attention to differend kinds of promotion activities, permanent surveys are carried out, cultural and socializing events for public are organized. Attention is also paid to development of human sources by improving qualification of employees, organizing specified library seminars and courses for librarians from our library as well as from other libraries. Great importance is attached to cooperation with other libraries, universities and cultural institutions in Slovakia and abroad.
