Abstract: |
Telemedicine is one of the most dynamically developing disciplines of
information technologies in medicine. It is possible to point out:
- application of the internet information for the patient
- application internet info for education
- medical use of the picture communication with the possibility to make distance consultation
- at latest the use of PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System)
Using this technology there is dramatic development of the imaging methods in medicine
- ultrasound methods
- MRI – magnetic resonance images
- PET – positron emission tomography
- SPECT – single photon emission computer tomography
- CT and MRI of the new generation
- Classical X-ray
- Digital subtraction angiography
In the year 2000 there was initiated project e-Europe so called Prodi initiative. In June 2002 in Stockholm was created
call e-Europe+2003 specifically for the countries, which should join EU soon. One of the most important items, which are
not adequately fulfilled, is health care on line. The authors on several practical items show the possibilities of the
use image info. The use of IT to the health care will bring dramatic profit for the patients in future.

Jiří Bakala, MD - Head of Nuclear Medicine Department, Bata´s Hospital in Zlín
Ten years of experience at coronary care unit. Specialist in internal medicine. Since 1978 he works as the head of
Nuclear Medicine Department in Bata´s Hospital in Zlín. Specialis in nuclear medicine.. Over 15 years interested in
processing of imaging information, firstly using planar gamacamera, at present information from SPECT gamacamera, 3D,
parametric imaging, PACS, integration and fusion of imaging methods. At nuclear medicine department was installed mini-
PACS. Wide lecture activity, mainly in cardiology, oncology,neurology and nuclear medicine. Since 1995 interested in
telemedicine. Author of several articles, connected with telemedicine different medical disciplines. He is is co-author
of the book: Ischemic Heart Disease (will be published 5/2003). He has written the chapters „Nuclear cardiology“ and
„Telemedicine in cardiology“.
