Mobile Library Websites and Their Optimization for Mobile Devices

Abstract
Nowadays, websites are a highly used medium. Among the technological equipment to access the websites and the entire Internet, we can’t count only desktops and laptops, which have been common in last twenty years. With the advent of the so-called mobile revolution, the use of mobile devices is growing. But, current websites aren’t optimized for mobile devices or technologies in many cases and they are characterized by very problematic accessibility and follow-up usability on mobile devices. Display the content of these websites on mobile devices means considerable dissatisfaction for their users. Existing barriers and limitations can be overcome by using the mobile optimized websites. They contribute to a better user experience for mobile users. Offering mobile services along with traditional values may mean for libraries necessary path to innovation. Quality, usable and mobile optimized websites can serve as entry points to the large amount of information and knowledge which libraries can offer to their users. The purpose of the poster is to describe the state of chosen websites of Czech and Slovak libraries from the perspective of their mobile optimization. It also presents current trends in mobile technologies, as well as the basic mobile strategies for adaptation of web interfaces for mobile devices.
Author's professional CV
Světlana Hrabinová graduated in 2014 follow-up study of Information and Library Studies at Silesian University in Opava. Currently she’s an external PhD student at the Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Philosophy, Comenius University in Bratislava. In her dissertation she deals with usability of mobile library websites. She is also works as an assistant at the Department of Information Science, Institute of Computer Science, Faculty of Philosophy and Science in Opava, Silesian University in Opava. Her research and professional interests include mainly information architecture, website quality evaluation, optimization of websites for mobile technologies and devices or modern information and communication technologies.
