Abstract
At the beginning of 2011 an extensive joint project of the National Library of the Czech Republic and Google company which focused on digitization of historical documents from the library funds was started. Printed documents from the years 1501 – 1800 are being processed, therefore the documents relate to various disciplines as they were recognized in that time period. Apart from the clerical literature there appear prints from the natural sciences (mathematics, physics, astrology, astronomy, medicine, botany, alchemy and the beginnings of chemistry), furthermore there are works of law, geography, books of travels, novels, plays, but also grammar books, syllabaries, cook books, farming books etc. From the linguistic point of view there are mainly Latin, German and Czech prints, however another European languages are also represented. Digitized copies are being made available on-line not only on the web pages of the project and in the digital library Google Books but also in the virtual research environment of the European digital library Manuscriptorium. This presentation shall summarize the experience from the successful incorporation of the first approximately 20 000 digitized documents, there will be presented practical examples of documents available in Manuscriptorium and we will also focus on further planned activities.
