Abstract
The public interface of the Finnish National Digital Library is a shared online service of Finnish libraries, archives and museums that ensures access to their printed and electronic resources and services. At the beginning of 2012, the National Library decided that the public interface called Finna will be based on Open Source Software. The decision to build an OSS-based service has been very successful and this presentation tells about the positive experiences in the development of Finna.

Aki Lassila has over 15 years experience of working in the ICT fieldin research and development roles both at home and abroad. His strengths include network-based services’ development, project and process management, as well as open-source code-based systems management and development. In the past Lassila has participated in several research projects related to knowledge management, creation of tools for collaborative innovation, service design, future working environments, new product and technology strategies of software companies, software companies' business models, internationalisation and networking. Aki is currently finishing his Ph.D. thesis on Software as a Service topic. At Finnish National Library, Aki is responsible for the Finnish National Digital Library’s public interface Finna development and deployment.
