How We Promoted eBooks at the Faculty of Science (Charles University)

Abstract
Charles University Prague, Faculty of Science has long time experiences with e-books – since 2005 had available e-books from natural science databases. In 2007 Faculty of Science purchased from financial reserve crucial scientific literature for subjects educated at the Faculty of Science. These e-books are recommended as study literature for all students. Spare funds from VZ09011 programm were in 2012 used for purchasing another scientific e-books. Besides them an ever increasing great collection of e-books in whole Charles University are available for Faculty of Science either. In 2012 due to offline access/downloading of e-books came time for purchasing reader devices. Their purchasing and lending to students is also promotion of library and offering e-books. Not the only usual promotion channels, but either simple cryptographic game was used for informing students about this new service. Solution of the game led students onto infopage with specific informations about this service and e-books. Students could find a password on the page, using which they got a small gift in office of Research Support Department.

Radka Lukášová works in Research Support Department of Charles University in Prague at the Faculty of Science on positon officer of electronic resources. She is an information specialist for searching and working with electronic resources. She cares of purchasing and management of electronic resources and participates on coordinating project for providing electronic resources for natural sciences. She is the author of poster from 2011 “New and Easy Way of Searching Publications at the Faculty of Science“ and co-author of presentations from Faculty of Science presented in last years on Inforum conference.
