A Good-quality Document as a Basis for Effective Information Searching

Abstract
A document created in a good quality – no matter if published in a traditional print way or electronically – is easy to process to be retrieved and used by users. In Web environment the use of guidelines and standards has become even more important than in the traditional print one despite the possibilities and advantages of automated information gathering of data which positively affects information searching. Accepting standards makes easier and better not only processing and retrieving of information but also maintaining, updating, long-term accessibility, usability, and makes the information device and target format independent. High-quality content of a structured document is the way to achieve relevant search results. The paper describes basic semantic elements of XHTML documents and shows their impact on search tools performance by providing examples of search results.
