Abstrakt
ebrary understands that e-book suppliers must keep pace with the needs and expectations of librarians and researchers by providing strong research tools and business models for end-users. Research from ebrary’s Global Student E-book Survey stated that 83% of students viewed multiple-user access as an important feature to e-books. Based on this research and a continuous working relationship with librarians, ebrary have launched two new multiple-user models, Extended Access™ and 3-USER Licens**e for the end-user. Extended Access reduces upfront costs to the library, prevents speculative purchases of multiple copies, and ensures researchers have on-demand access to the e-books they need. If a title is in use, and another researcher needs to use it, the library can upgrade to a multi-user access model when available, purchase another copy, or take a short-term loan. The process can be automated and seamless to end-users, or libraries can receive email notifications and trigger the additional purchases themselves, thus helping to prevent turn-aways. ebrary’s 3-USER access model provides academic libraries with another layer of strategic e-book acquisition and ensures access to highly used perpetual titles. The three-user license works in conjunction with Extended Access, easily allowing libraries to automatically upgrade single-user titles based on usage by researchers. This presentation will explore the ways in which ebrary is constantly addressing and expanding its models and product services to support both end-users and librarians.
