Abstract
Information science is dealing with the notion of information space as „the collection of all known concepts controlled by an information system“ since the eighties of the 20th century. Changes that have been brought into this notion by new phenomena, first of all digitization and digital networks are discussed in this contribution. As a consequence of these phenomena, new type of information space has emerged, new both from the point of view of types of information that are accessible in this new information space and a shape of information space, respectively.
We apply remediation theory (remediation of content and remediation of form) on digital information space which we, in this case, treat as a one of forms of medium. The stress is also put on the discussion of differences of two concepts: concept of information space and concept of cyberspace, respectively.
The role and position of libraries in a new digital information space is also analyzed in this contribution.
