An event I love e-resources or come to fall in love… – a new way of support and promotion of the electronic information resources at the Palacky University Library in Olomouc. The pilot year was held in the framework of the Academic Week celebrations from 19 February to 23 February 2018.

Interested users could stop at a specially-created information point at the Central Library in Zbrojnice, which operated on the ground floor daily from 10am to 3pm. There they were able to find out what electronic information sources are available at UP and what options they offer to our students and employees. Apart from the information about databases or information education seminars, mobile devices were also available. The participants could browse the databases and try out the search by the field they are studying. The librarians also answered their questions about remote access or citations. In the end they carried away various promotional items – leaflets, badges I love e-resources, pens, bags, notepads, and so on.

The event took place parallely at the six branches of the UP Library at each faculty, where librarians informed their users in a similar way. All participating librarians wore t-shirts with the I Love e-resources logo all week. A great response of feedback was also registered on the Library´s social networks – Instagram and Facebook, an article in the university newspaper has been published.

A number of direct participants we have addressed this new way of promotion is about 350 persons. We would like to organize this event in the library once a year at the beginning of the summer semester.

Mgr. Romana Applová graduated from Information Studies and Librarianship at Silesian University in Opava and then she finished a follow-up program at Charles University in Prague. Since 2012 she has been working at the Department of Bibliographic-Information Services at the Palacky University Library in Olomouc, where she devoted her work to information retrieval and information education lessons. Since 2017 she has been the head of this department. In addition of providing access to databases and monitoring their use, she is interested in the new trends in information education, various ways of promoting electronic information resources among students and university staff. She also teaches the subject of Electronic Information Resources for Doctoral Students at the Faculty of Arts. Currently, she is involved in the preparation of an e-learning subject and the introduction of information education in the education of students of Palacky University.
