Abstract
The formation of the Plagiarism Detection System on a national level in the university environment in Slovakia and evaluation of the first year of its existence will be presented. The isolated individual universities plagiarism fight cannot reach the quality level as that provided by theses originality check based on a nationwide central repository approach. The originality of each thesis that is coming-in to the central register is checked against the central repository theses and also to selected internet resources. The mere existence of the Central Registry of Theses and Dissertations and of Plagiarism Detection System have a preventive effect.

Julius Kravjar works in the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information (CVTI SR) as a project manager of the „Plagiarism Detection System for Slovak Academic and Research Institutions“ project. He also participates in three national projects : National Information System promoting Research and Development in Slovakia – Access to Electronic Information Resources, Infrastructure for R & D – Data Center for Research and Development, National infrastructure for technology transfer in Slovakia. Prior to join CVTI SR he held several positions in software development and marketing.
