Scientific Agricultural Journals Published in the Czech Republic and Their Position in World Databases

Abstract

Agricultural research in the Czech Republic has a long-term tradition. Therefore, the Czech Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) has gradually become a publisher of 11 titles of journals dealing with various fields in agriculture. These are: Czech Journal of Animal Science (1945), Plant Soil and Environment (1955), Agricultural Economics (1955), Journal of Forest Science (1955), Research in Agricultural Engineering (1955), Veterinarni medicina (1956), Czech Journal of Genetics and Plant Breeding (1965), Plant Protection Science (1965), Horticultural Science (1974), Czech Journal of Food Sciences (1983) and Soil and Water Research (2006). All of the 11 titles have gradually been included in the database SCOPUS and seven of them have been selected and included in the database WEB OF SCIENCE (WOS) in different years. In addition to these prestigious multidisciplinary databases, individual titles are also excerpted into databases specialized in agriculture, such as CAB Abstracts, AGRIS/FAO or AGRICOLA. Besides, some titles have been included in narrowly specialized databases depending on their subject, for example, in Food Science and Technology Abstracts, Review of Agricultural Entomology, Phytomed Database and others. However, the journal Listy cukrovarnické a řepařské published now by VUC Praha (Sugar Research Institute) and comming from the year 1885 is the oldest among the Czech agricultural journals included in SCOPUS and WOS. Furthermore, it is also processed into Agrindex of Agris/FAO, Food Science and Technology Abstracts, Sugar Industry Abstracts (CAB International) and Chemical Abstracts. Author's professional CV

Mgr. Věra Kroftová is a head of the library and information centre at the Agricultural Research Institute Kroměříž, Ltd., and provides information services for the Agrotest fyto, Ltd. She conducted several information projects and provides information services for scientists and researchers and collects their publications. Since 2007, she has been responsible for the evaluation of the researchers´ publication activity. She also worked in organizing committees of two international conferences. She works in SKIP (Union of Librarians and Information Specialists), and she is a member of the professional organization IAALD (International Association of Agricultural Information Specialists). She has taken part in information conferences and workshops with her contributions. In 2005, she participated in the 11th IAALD Congress in Lexington, USA.
