Abstract
Library free choice is a current trend in modern libraries which brings higher demands on library users in the sence of self orientation in free shelves collections of libraries. Touch screens with online guidance system represent an user-friendly interface which simplifies the user‘s posibility to find an exemplar of a publication in the library and offer more comfortable solution to the user. Self-service system saves time and work of librarians (explanation, searching, bringing an exemplar from free shelves collection etc. ) so they can put the saved time and energy to their profesional work. The creation of an active online application was suported by the project of the fund „Fond rozvoje vysokých škol“ number FRVS 111/2010. Participants of pilot project were three from eight libraries at Faculty of Science. The procedure itself was divided in two parts – hardware and software. In hardware part we choose to use touchscreens with built-in computers, which we placed on custom manufactured stands. Software part means programming of internet application, which uses output from university library IS and graphical work, thus schematic images of bookstock placement. Maps are available in 2D and 3D versions. Maps could be viewed using any recent internet browser, but application itself is targeted for Chrome browser from Google. The orientation system was brought in the work in January 2010, therefore we need time to see, how much the system could ease work of libarians as weel as library visitors.
