Abstract:
TECH Subject Gateway follows up the trend of subject-related gateways designing in the Czech Republic. TECH Subject Gateway follows the well-established Portal STM. A cooperation of State technical library and Charles University Computer Centre brought out, a useful search tool for high-quality Czech and foreign information resources of Technology, Natural and Applied Sciences. TECH Subject Gateway provides an intuitive user interface for parallel searching in heterogenous resources. In addition, all State technical library´s patrons get an additional remote access to selected commercial databases. Contact- and other useful information on selected subject-related information resources formerly included in Portal STM were worth maintaining in order to convert into TECH Subject Gateway environment. Thus TECH gained unique elements such as Database of freely available information resources and Research institutions directory. Future development of TECH Subject Gateway will be mainly influenced with a feedback from users and according to results of information behaviour patterns analysis. The usage of particular TECH´s sections and its information resources will be taken into account when updating and upgrading. TECH Subject Gateway will be able to meet users´ particular information needs and requirements and also able to avoid their information overload.
