How to Avoid Problems in Including Dedications in Web of Science
Autor: Věra Kroftová, Agrotest fyto, Ltd., Czech Republic
Fulltext
Abstract:
Web of Science is the database that is used to evaluate a level of scientific and research outcomes. At the end of 2008, the fields "Funding Agency" and "Grant Number" were added to its records. The aim is to provide information on relevant grants and funding agencies. The new fields will not be useful unless uniform data are provided and correctly included. An analysis of dedications concerning Czech funding agencies has revealed a large number of errors and inaccuracies. Identical agencies are included under different names (as many as five names per agency including Czech and English acronyms). To make this new service reliable, it is necessary to take some measures. The Information System of Science and Research provides correct project numbers as well as uniform (official) names of funding agencies including their English equivalents. It will be probably necessary to add the country name. Rules for using names of funding agencies and project numbers should be implemented in instructions to authors in journals issued in the Czech Republic. Librarians of specialized libraries can play supervisory and preventive role. Some mistakes have not been avoided during processing records on part of the database provider.
