Abstract:
The work handles with the development of a job analysis of an information professional. The core work consists of a research to
identify the profile of an information professional which was based on studies and detailed analysis of competency schemes
developed in foreign by professional associations. The research itself executed via questioner was carried out at companies
operating in Slovakia. Their main activity is information activity or activity provided by internal resources. The results of
the research reveal informations about the information professionals working in Slovakia. The synthetic knowledge about the
information profession summarize into the layout of the job analysis of an information professional. In the layout of the job
analysis I separate the knowledge, skills and abilities of information professionals into six areas: information science,
interaction with content, interaction with people, business, information and area of special attainments. The utilization of the
designed job analysis may be useful in the following areas: establishment of demands of applicants interested in the profession,
assignment into a concrete position, classification of the salary banding, identification of responsibilities within the
organization, identification of incorrect processes, definition of competencies. In the area of education the job analysis may
accommodate the reassessment of educational guidelines or a development of new educational schedule in further development of
individual growth or consultant activity.
About author:
Mgr. Anežka Compelová is a graduate of Library and Information Science at Comenius University in Bratislava. She was nominated
for rector prize with her diploma project named „Job analysis of professional information worker“. Now she works in a software
firm as a web designer, she contributes on development of new firm products and she leads learning courses regarding to working
with web applications.
