One of the many responsibilities of National Medical Library (NML) is to support cooperation among institutions and to provide standard methodology and best practices guidelines for information services. According to is role NML operates the MEDVIK system - an open centralized information library system for medical libraries in Czech Republic. MEDVIK system is designed to support traditional and electronic library services and resources with great regard to institutional diversity and reasonable costs. NML is holder of the general licence for MEDVIK core software. MEDVIK Portal provides the public interface of MEDVIK system - a web application providing broad range of services to individual and institutional users. Set of different tools was developed and implemented in MEDVIK Portal environment which are aimed to help users to navigate between available traditional and e resources. This article describes MEDVIK environment, system‘s functionality and capabilities; and many advantages and opportunities it brings to all participating libraries and their users.
Helena Bouzkova began her professional career as retriever in medical libraries in Hradec Kralové and Prague. She has been working as Director of the National Medical Library in the Czech Republic since 1998. She participates in professional activities of library associations and institutions. She also participates in organization of medical libraries cooperation in the Czech Republic. She is a member of EAHIL Executive Board.
