There were libraries for five thousand years the source of information
for many generations of artists, scientists, lecturers, students and large
public. Twentieth century, century of computers and their using in all branches,
means break point in libraries too. Classical libraries continues, but from
they the information centres are divided. Information centre gives not only quick
selection from catalogued documents, but direct access to new data
mediums and full texts in the electronical form for users. In the future the libraries
collect and store documents on classical mediums and on new data mediums too.
Information centres care of the access to information and must cooperate
with the libraries. Mostly we cannot divide the actions of library
and information centre. The article describes ten years of practical
experience in transformation of information services. |
