Most information professionals will have heard of the new information
retrieval opportunities offered via the Internet, but few will have a
practical understanding of exactly what they are, how they work, and their
impact on their library services. This half day workshop will provide a guide
to some of these new applications, including
- trends in Paperless Publishing, including e-books, digital paper, the
role of personal digital assistants and other access devices
- using Intelligent Agents to retrieve information on the Internet: what
tools are available, and how effective are they?
- mobile access to the Internet: what do information sources look like?
What are the implications for managers and end-users?
The workshop will use a combination of lecture, discussion, demonstration
and case study. Participants will come away with a greater understanding of
these new tools, and be prepared to develop an action plan to deal with their
likely impact on their organisations.
Timeframe: 13:00 až 17:00
